The fitting of golf clubs is often influenced by parameters rooted in tradition. For instance, the single-length concept (where all irons have the same length) has not gained widespread acceptance.
For driver fitting, I have adopted a completely new approach that aims to deliver better feel, softer feedback, and, most importantly for the driver, increased distance.
The traditional fitting parameters for shaft stiffness are aligned with swing speed. This principle applies to all clubs.
Driver Swing Speed Guidelines:
Xstiff | < 106 mph |
Stiff | 94 - 106 mph |
Regular | 82 - 94 mph |
Average (often referred to as Senior) | 66 - 82 mph |
Lite (often referred to as Lady) | < 66 mph |
These values are not absolute, as swing characteristics also play an important role. Factors such as transition, tempo, and wrist-cock release can increase or decrease these values.
I have questioned these traditional parameters and have drawn inspiration from professional golfers, particularly long drive competitors.
This new approach is based on two key physical parameters:
When these conditions are met, an additional 20 meters of driver distance is not unrealistic. Numerous trials and tests with various golfers have proven this to be true.
How Do I Achieve These Exceptional Results?
I use lite shafts with varying weights and profiles to optimize the swing characteristics. The loft of the driver head may need to be adjusted. If the driver head includes adjustable weights, their distribution is carefully evaluated. The swing weight is adjusted as necessary to optimize performance.
By focusing on these factors, I can deliver drivers that provide exceptional feedback, feel, and distance improvements.
