procedure for Custom Fitting

No two people are alike in terms of body size and stature. The proportions of the limbs also play a decisive role. Body structure and health condition are additional critical factors. These are reasons enough to proceed as follows when creating a golf set:

1. En Interview
A conversation is conducted to understand the golfer's expectations and playing habits.

Here are some key metrics:

  • Body measurements
  • Skill level and playing characteristics
  • Playing style
  • Goals and preferences

2. Evaluation of the Current Golf Equipment

The existing set of clubs is assessed. Relevant data is recorded for comparison purposes.

Key details include:

  • Types of clubs
  • Club dimensions
  • Construction
  • Materials

3. Swing Analysis

The initial swing analysis is performed using the golfer’s current set or clubs. This helps establish the baseline and provides an objective comparison for selecting new equipment.

With various measuring devices, the most critical metrics are recorded, including:

  • Clubhead speed
  • Ball trajectory
  • Impact moment
  • Impact patterns
  • Distances
  • Dispersion
  • Swing path

4. Testing Different Clubs

The golfer’s goals and preferences, along with the measurements from their current clubs, guide the initial selection of new equipment. The following characteristics are considered:

  • Shape of the clubhead
  • Construction of the clubhead
  • Shaft properties (material, stiffness, flex profile)
  • Weight distribution (swing weight)
  • Total weight
  • Grips
  • Visual impression (color)

I test the golf clubs either outdoors on the Frick golf course or indoors at the facility in Birr, just a few minutes from the shop.

5. Creating an Equipment Proposal
The golfer's goals and preferences, combined with the test results, lead to an equipment proposal. This proposal includes the following considerations:

  • Club mix: wedges, irons, hybrids, woods, driver, putter
  • Type of clubs: results from the test
  • Shaft: weight, flex, material, flex profile
  • Club dimensions: length, lie
  • Grips: size, material

6. Testing the New Equipment

After the clubs are built, the golfer tests them (feel, impact pattern, distance, dispersion, consistency).
The process includes:

  • Systematic testing of all clubs
  • Recording of adjustment parameters

7. Adjusting the Clubs

Fine-tuning mainly focuses on the lie angle, as other parameters can be precisely set during the manufacturing process.

  • Usually involves lie corrections (optimal ground contact at impact).
